Rochester Christian University has selected Luke Fleer, director of development for Michigan Medicine, as its new vice president of development and alumni relations and chief development officer.
Fleer, who graduated from RCU in 2004, will lead the university’s development efforts as it raises funds for capital projects and student scholarships; deepens relationships with alumni, friends, community members and other partners from around the region; and increases awareness about its mission and future.
“Luke has an accomplished record in development and fundraising, and we are thrilled to welcome him back home to RCU,” said Dr. Brian Stogner, RCU president. “His expertise, drive and passion for RCU will benefit us greatly as we continue to build relationships and support within the community, to grow the university for a solid future. We look forward to the leadership and energy he will bring to our campus.”
Fleer said he hopes to deepen partnerships with individuals and businesses who share a commitment to support and sustain a Christian university in southeast Michigan.
”I’m excited to return to my roots, to return to a place that shaped my life in so many positive ways,” Fleer said. “I want to share the RCU story to better engage our community, our alumni and other friends of the university in meaningful ways.”
Fleer comes to RCU after serving at Michigan Medicine in Ann Arbor for over five years. While at Michigan Medicine, Fleer led strategy and fundraising efforts for the Department of Medicine, the system’s largest and oldest department.
Before that, Fleer worked for almost 10 years in various development roles for Oakland University in Rochester Hills. He served as the regional director of development, where he raised major gifts for the university, and worked closely raising funds for the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine and for the Division 1 athletic department. He also implemented outreach strategies for leadership annual gifts, blended gifts, alumni gifts, and community outreach. After his graduation from RCU, he worked for three years at the university as an admissions adviser, alumni officer and assistant basketball coach. In 2015, Fleer was named to the Oakland County Elite 40 Under 40 class, placing second in the overall selection.
Fleer lives in Brighton with his wife, Marianne, and their four children.
