KIBO CORNER
Kibo: A DOCR Outpost is RCU’s campus coffee shop with a cause! Open from 7:30-11:30 AM, Monday-Friday during the school year, as well as for special events, Kibo provides craft coffee beverages sourced from local coffee roaster, Dessert Oasis Coffee Roasters.
Our History
Founded in 2011, Kibo initially opened as “Kibo Corner,” sourcing its coffee from the Kibo Group in Uganda, East Africa, where proceeds from the shop were then donated. Kibo Corner was entirely volunteer-run and operated this way through the spring of 2024. Upon the retirement of Kibo Corner’s founder, the coffee shop had to shift where it sourced its beans from and how it was operated. As a result, while students and some employees continue to volunteer to assist with Kibo’s operations, we added a paid cafe manager and established a partnership with Dessert Oasis Coffee Roasters, who shares our values of community building and direct trade sourcing.
Through our partnership with DOCR, we are excited to offer craft coffee with a specialized menu, new equipment, updated decorations, and a renewed commitment to supporting farms through direct trade purchasing to ensure quality and sustainability. In addition to these practices, a portion of the proceeds will continue to be donated to Kibo Group in honor of Kibo Corner’s beginnings and our relationship with the organization.
